Thomas Nelson Goings

Thomas Nelson Goings, 75, of Sidney and formerly of DeGraff, passed away peacefully at 4:58 p.m. on

Monday, April 13, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Belle Center, Ohio on January 4, 1951, to the late Harvey Nelson Goings and Myrtle Mae (Legge) Goings.

He is survived by his three daughters, Charlotte (Gary) Phipps, Christina (Brent) Golliday, and Cynthia (Dave) Elliott; eight grandchildren, Gary Lee (Ashlan) Phipps, Kortney (Bradley) Boyd, Brittany (Matt) Johnson, Bethany Golliday, Brady Golliday, Paige Schindewolf, Kaleb Schindewolf, and Cooper Elliott; nine great grandchildren, Rebecca Phipps, William Phipps, Blakely Phipps, Isabella Phipps, Karter Boyd, Brynlee Boyd, Hazel Johnson, Ivy Johnson, and Remi Rose Johnson; sister-in-law, Sonnie Goings; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Maria Maelyn Johnson; and ten siblings, Harvey "Junior" Goings Jr., Robert Goings, Martin Goings, Charles Goings, Ardel Goings, Kathryn Cupps, Bessie Watkins, Sarah Walters, Floyd Goings, and Ronald Goings.

Tom had worked in construction, farming, and for the former Mid-States Container in DeGraff. He was a vital part of the Riverside High School athletic program for over 50 years, from coaching, keeping scorebook and stats, to playing basketball on the courts to “school” the youth on how to play the game. Tom’s dedication emulated the true meaning of being a Pirate. His legacy will live on in the numerous young athletes that he coached, supported, and “schooled” throughout his lifetime. Tom will always be a Pirate!

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Pastor Bill Halter will officiate a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
