Obituary

Ruth L. Rowley, 95, of West Jefferson and formerly of DeGraff, passed away peacefully at 6:58 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Paintsville, Kentucky, on November 13, 1930, to the late Harvey Williams and Mae (Horn) Williams.

On September 15, 1951, Ruth married James Franklyn Rowley, and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Okia Lee Stradling.

Ruth is survived by her six children, James H. (Marva) Rowley, Tom J. Rowley, Sandra S. (Larry) Kolsky, Stephen R. Rowley, Terry L. Rowley, and Jon P. Rowley; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Sue) Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Throughout her working career, Ruth worked for the former Citizens Bank of DeGraff, served as clerk for the DeGraff Water Department, and retired from the former Mid States Container in DeGraff. She engaged in many facets of the former DeGraff United Methodist Church, served with church ladies’ groups, as well as on the building committee for the new Cornerstone Fellowship of DeGraff.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Cornerstone Fellowship of DeGraff, 1839 County Road 24 S. in DeGraff, where Pastor Michael Mitchell will officiate a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
