Oliver Eugene “Bud” Mees, 71, of DeGraff passed away at 5:26 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. He was born on February 10, 1955, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, a son of the late Oliver Clark “Bud” Mees and Ruth Mae (Allison) Mees. On September 15, 1973, Bud married Terri (McGee) Mees and she survives, along with their three children, Beth (Chuck) Ragland, Jason Mees, and Laura Duff; six grandchildren, Brendan Duff (Bridget Littlejohn), Zachary Duff, Taylor Mees, Kyleigh Duff, Makayla Mees (Ayden Harrell), and Ayden Mees; a great grandson, Lukas Littlejohn; a sister, Charlotte Hites; a brother, Jim (Bev) Mees; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Mees; and a brother-in-law, Andy Hites.
Bud had worked as a material handler at DAB in Bellefontaine for over 20 years. Following his retirement from DAB, he owned and operated B&J Construction, drove school bus for both Indian Lake preschool and Riverside Local Schools, worked at the former DeGraff Lumber Company, and served as sexton for Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
Bud enjoyed working on cars, model car kits, and collecting model cars. He loved being outdoors, working on the family farm, helping friends and neighbors, and taking car rides through the countryside. Most especially, Bud enjoyed spending time with his family and taking family vacations to Northern Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Bud’s best friends, Bryan Jakeway and Ron Park for their unwavering support of Bud.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Pastor Mark Atterholt will officiate a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio at a later date. Since Bud was most comfortable in blue jeans and a flannel shirt, casual dress is encouraged.
