Lowell “Louie” Prater Wright, 77, of DeGraff, passed away peacefully at 9:13 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Louisa, Kentucky on February 5, 1949, and he was the son of the late Curtis Wright and Mary Elizabeth (LeMaster) Wright.
On June 29, 1991, Lowell married his wife of 34 years, Lynn Ellen (Ewing) Wright in Alger, Ohio and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2025. He is also preceded in death by his parents, sons-in-law, Joseph Estep, and Keith Effingham; six siblings, Adam Wright, Rosalie Sparks and her husband Homer, Cleo Woods and her husband Roger, Kenneth Wright, Della Rigsby and her husband Johnny, and Mack Wright.
Lowell is survived by seven children, Kenneth (Deana) Wright, Shauna (Rich) Szima, Seth (Gerri) Wright, Shelly (Tim) Baker, Jody (De De) Kerns, Bonnie Effingham, and Amy Estep; 26 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, a sister, Carol Murry; sister-in-law, Linda Wright; and several nieces and nephews.
A 1968 graduate of Portsmouth High School, Lowell served his country in the United States Navy from 1968-1970. He was a member of Harold Kerr Post #173 in Bellefontaine. Lowell enjoyed fishing, word search puzzles, playing computer games, listening to all genres of music, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and Dallas Cowboys, and most especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Lowell’s son, Seth Wright, will lead a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Lowell’s memory, to Universal Home Health & Hospice Care 921 Rush Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
