Don L. Baughman, 90, of DeGraff and a former resident of Alaska, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, with his family by his side, leaving behind a life defined by adventure, grit, and a deep love for the wilderness of Alaska. He was born February 7, 1935, in DeGraff, Ohio, a son of the late Charles Lewis Baughman and Ruth C. (Barnes) Baughman.
An avid hunter, fisherman, and true outdoorsman, Don felt most alive beneath open skies—whether tracking game through fresh snow, casting a line into cold, clear waters, or navigating the vast backcountry with quiet confidence. Alaska was not just where he had lived; it was where his spirit belonged.
Don possessed a rare self-reliance and strength, paired with an easy willingness to share his knowledge with others. He was happiest teaching, telling stories, or simply sitting in silence with those who understood that the outdoors speaks for itself.
He leaves behind his life partner, Rowena Lump; four children, Don Charles Baughman, Teri Lynn (Shawn) Nusky, Rena Baughman, and Keenan Baughman; a sister, Joy (Bob) Pool; as well as friends and fellow outdoorsmen whose lives were enriched by his wisdom, humor, and unshakable presence. His legacy lives on in every trail walked, every river fished, and every horizon watched with patience and admiration.
In his honor, the family encourages time spent outdoors, conservation efforts, or a quiet moment appreciating the natural world he loved so deeply.
He will be missed beyond words.
Per Don’s request, there will be no public services.
